The game began life in black and white on the Macintosh computers in 1988. Since then it has been surpassed with the detailed colour graphics of the 16-bit microcomputers (and VGA DOS of course). The Revenge of Shinobi, originally known as The Super Shinobi, is a 1989 action game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is set after the original Shinobi and ignores the arcade version of Shadow Dancer. In the year 19XX, the evil crime syndicate Zeed was reduced to rubble by the powers of stealth possessed by the Shinobi master, Joe Musashi. It seemed as if the world had returned to peace. But three years later, the villains reform themselves as Neo Zeed and cast the world into darkness, killing all ninjas who could oppose them. Joe returns all too late to the now destroyed Oboro Clan and learns from his dying master that Neo Zeed has kidnapped his fiance Naoko. Burning with vengeance, the hero sets out for the heart of Neo Zeed. Gameplay involves reaching the goal of each area without needing to search for targets like in Shinobi and Shadow Dancer. On top of some demanding platforming, the Neo Zeed warriors are relentless and must be dealt with carefully at either long or close range. Antepiece: The Chinatown level has one really wide gap between platforms to jump over about half way through the level, but there are no enemies or hazards to worry about. The hero can find a powerup that enhances all his attacks and perform limited Ninjutsu abilities to eradicate enemies. Attack Its Weak Point: The Round 5 boss fight is against an armored tank that's carrying a massive missile.A few stages later, at the wharf, the player has to pull it off over a Bottomless Pit. Attract Mode: It alternates between a text crawl with the storyline and gameplay demos. To stop it, Joe must destroy its three exposed cores while jumping over electric currents. The demos have really lame gameplay, and by changing the difficulty settings you can make Joe die even faster or prevent him from dying. Awesome, but Impractical: The Jutsu of Mijin in Revenge of Shinobi causes Joe to explode and do enormous damage to everything onscreen. The latter case causes the demo to go on forever until you press Start due to running out of inputs. It's the only Ninjitsu that can be used repeatedly without needing additional pick-ups (though you need to have one use to use it to begin with).at the cost of consuming a life every single time it's used. Needless to say, using it on your final life isn't a good idea. Nevertheless, Mijin can be your best friend in this game. There are even a few total remakes and variations on the theme of which I have yet to investigate. While it's true that using it will cost you a life, if you use it when you're almost out of energy and about to die, you'll continue with your life gauge at full and in the same space you were before. The graphics, music and even characters all differ slightly between each version. Numerous versions of this game exist including the original classic on the Apple Mac, a decent MS-DOS version, Amiga and even a Japanese Famicom release. Finally having beaten the intimidating reigning champion Biff Raunch, your name is written up on the board and you can rest your weary shufflepuck hand and wallow in the small measure of fame you have garnered in this most eclectic of cafes! As the tournament progresses naturally the foes get tougher: yet each has his strengths and weaknesses (my favorite is the dapper crocodillian alien who starts the match playing at his full abilities but is increasingly confounded by his love for space maritinis). If at first it seems strange that shuffle puck has survived in its original form so far into the future your doubts will be obliterated as you get embroiled in your opening tournament match against Chip (the nebbish goof who seems alarmingly out of place.perhaps he is having an 'After Hours' sort of night), the joy of viciously rocketing a rubber puck in the direction of his milksop personage is truly one of the highlights this digital era has to offer. The place is buzzing, in a feat of blithe anachronism an obliging cyborg chalks up the tournament hopefuls on the blackboard and there is still room for one last entrant! Who would have guessed the night would turn out like this! 'What the hell!', pushing open the door you are assailed by swanky 8bit bistro music, a menagerie of characters, whose business is probably split between here and Moss Eisley and a gleaming shuffle puck board commanding pride of place in the center of the room. The Scene: A rainswept neo- noir night in some deserted part of the city, down on your luck you catch the glow of a neon sign reading: Shufflepuck Cafe. Take something mundane like air hockey add aliens and immediately turn it into something deeply enjoyable.voila: Shufflepuck Cafe.
